Materials and options

Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) is also called “the king of paddle woods”. Most producers of wooden paddles use it and so do we. Western red cedar is beautiful red wood. It is light-weight, has very low shrinkage and what is most important – it almost does not rot.

Black alder (Alnus glutinosa) is our alternative material for paddles.  Paddles of black alder are better for heavy-duty using (like rentals and clubs), where durability is important. Black alder is considerably stronger wood but it has ~20% bigger weight as well.

Finish

We recommend oil finish over hard coating like varnish or epoxy. Oil finish leaves the most natural look. Paddle feels warm and it is not slippery when it is wet. We oil paddle at least 5 times with pure tung oil. On special order, we have also made varnished paddles.

Glow EyeHOW DOES IT WORK ?
Unlike conventional pigments, photo-luminescent fillers are not primary light reflectors, but are actual sources of light.

They absorb radiant energy from sunlight ( or artificial lighting ) and convert it into longer wavelengths in the visible spectrum, thereby emitting it as light with the sensation of colours. Glow pigments will release light for up to 8 hours in darkness and "charge up" in 20-30 minutes.
